We have had so much fun breathing new life into the Greencove house; and, the master bedroom was the room that proved to have so many fun surprises for us. This room sits on the back of the house, and, that view is amazing! It’s just filled with nature and beauty and tranquility. Remember, this house sits in the middle of the city — it’s such a rare gem!
When we redesigned this master suite we knew we needed more closet space and more bathroom space in order for it to fulfill today’s master suite requirements. In order to do this, we stole space from other places. The first place was from the hall bathroom that sits right outside the door leading into the master. In the hall bath we stole the space where the previous bathtub sat in order to make the existing master closet bigger. This switch also gave us space in the master bathroom for a private water closet.
We were also able to steal space from a large linen closet across the hall from the bathroom. The hallway has another linen closet, so we knew it wouldn’t be missed. We closed in the closet from the hallway and opened it up from the master bedroom. This created a second closet in the room; and we found extra storage space that had previously been closed in. We are never ones to hide-away extra storage, so we created an incognito access door in the master bedroom that is designed to blend in with the wall trim. What a great place to hide Christmas presents or to store the pillows from the bed at night.
We have one requirement for our master suites: they must have “WOW” factor! This one is a favorite of ours because it came together so beautifully. We love a trim wall as an accent, but we decided to take that a little further and spread the trim around to every wall in this room. We designed it to go 3/4 of the way up the wall; and our carpenter, William, never disappoints — the trim in this room is just gorgeous!
To add the drama that every master needs we selected a delicious and elegant paint color from Behr called Blue Metal. It’s as if it was made just for this room! We took the color from the top of the trim and painted the ceiling. We were worried that it might make the ceiling feel lower; but it did just the opposite. It added so much detail to this room! It has ruined us going forward — white ceilings don’t really do it for us anymore. 🙂
Finally, we added THE statement piece to finish off the room. Can we just talk about this incredibly gorgeous-being of a light? When this light went up you could hear our gasps for miles! It is the perfect size, the perfect shape, the perfect finish, and it brings so much class to this room! We may or may not want to put it in every.single.room.ever!
We are so excited for the future owners who get to walk into this room every day. We get an extra pep in our step when we visit it; and it just seems to make every worry we have not such a big deal. And that is why we love what we do!
